Updates in team scoring and course distance in World Masters

During the recent WMRA Council meeting in Monaco, regulations for the WMRA/WMA Masters World Mountain Running Championships were discussed and some new policies are now in place.  These changes relate to team scoring and course distance.

Revised team scoring system

Starting with the 2018 World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Slovenia to be held on June 2, team scoring per age group will be three members from a country. However, teams with only two (2) team members will be officially placed after all the full three-member teams are scored.

Distance parameters

Due to logistics in Slovenia, two courses will be utilized. The first, whose length is 10.8 kilometers with 1187 meters of ascent, will be contested for men’s categories 35-50. For men 55 to 75 and all women’s categories, a course of 7.8 kilometers with 869 meters of ascent will be utilized.  Starting in 2019, men and women will run the same course up to age 54, with categories starting at 55 running a shorter distance. The exception is a host venue which offers logistics to favor just one course suitable for all categories (ie: the course in 2017 in Pruske, Slovakia).

Council member Tomo SARF and LOC director Brane CENCIC invite you to their home country of Slovenia to participate in the 2018 World Masters. See an inviting video message below:
