13. Master World Mountain Running Championships at Janske Lazne

There were 23 Nations represented at the start of the 13. World Master Mountain Running Championships in Czech Rep.&nbsp, at Janske Lazne.
13 nations took at least one medal!
475 master finished the race: 117 women and 358 men.

In total Germany won 15 gold medals of which 6 gold medals (exactly 33%) in the individual result with 2 men and 4 women in gold-medal position. Hosting Country, Czech Rep. won 5 gold medals (individual: 2 women plus team: 2 team men and 1 team women), followed by the Great Britain with 4 gold, two for men individual, one for women individual and one team men, and Italy with 3 gold, one for men individual, one team men and one team women. Two gold medals were gained by the Poland (both in men: one individual and one team) and the Austria (one individual men and one individual women).
Finally one gold medal was one by Slovakia, Switzerland and USA.
Also France and New Zealand had athletes on the podium with one silver each and Ireland and Netherlands with one bronze each.


In the individual races Germany won 6 gold medals, Great Britain 3, Czech Rep. and Austria 2 each and Italy, Poland, USA, Slovakia and Switzerland one each.
In the team competition, Germany won 9 gold medals out of 16,&nbsp, Czech rep. 3,, Italy 2 and Great Britain and Poland&nbsp, team gold medal in M45 category.
Finally the total medals won by Germany were 28 (15 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze), in second position Czech rep. with a total of 22 medals (5 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze), third Italy with a total of 12 medals (3 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze) and fourth Great Britain with 11 medals (4 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze), followed by Poland with 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze) and Slovakia with 5 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze). Austria with 3 medals (2 gold and 1 bronze) and USA with 3 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze), Switzerland with 2 medals (1 gold and 1 silver) France and New Zealand with 1 silver each and Ireland and Netherland with 1 bronze medal also were in the medal table of the event: so at the end 13 Countries had athletes on the podium.
The 8.6 kilometer uphill course with nearly 800 meters of vertical climbing was the same for all categories.&nbsp, At the 11:00 a.m. start time (for category 75) temperatures were warm.
In the men categories only one confirmed the world title won last year in Germany and he was Albert Anderegg (SUI – M65). All other were new champions, that is&nbsp, Johann Weber (AUT – M75), Martin Ford (GBR – M70), Tadeusz Jasek (POL – M60), Wilhelm Dengler (GER – M55), Craig Roberts (GBR – M50), Paul Sichermann (GER – M45), Giuseppe Antonini (ITA – M40) and Tommy Manning (USA – M35).
In the women categories only three runners Maria Marcibalova (SVK – W75), Blanka Paulu (CZE – W55), Ivana Sekyrova (CZE – W40) confirmed the world title won last year in Germany. Ruth Schlager (GER – W70), Marianne Spronk&nbsp, (GER – W65), Ann-Marie Jones (GBR – W60), Irmi Kubicka (AUT – W50),&nbsp, Tanja Nehme (GER – W45) and Birgit Unterberger (GER – W35) were the news champions this year.
USA Tommy Manning posts fastest time at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships ran 37minutes 44 seconds to best a record field of about 500 finishers at the 13th World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Janske Lazne, Czech rep. In the women, the fastest runner was Ivana Sekyrova (W40) who ran the race with 47 minutes and 15seconds.
A special note for USA Nancy Hobbs, WMRA Treasurer, who ran and won bronze medal in the W50.
A lot of positive comments in favor of LOC arrived by the runners.
Karel Skliba, President of LOC, and al his staff of Maraton Stav, were satisfied of the whole event.
Libor Varhanik, President of Czech Athletic Federation, Frantisek Fojit, General Secretary of Czech Athletic Federation, Gejza Valent, President of Veteran’s Association of the Czech Athletic Federation, Italian Bruno Gozzelino, WMRA President, Slovenian Tomo Sarf, WMRA Council member, Canadian Brian KEaveney WMA Vice President Non-Stadia attended to the event, together other VIP like for sample Vladimir Spidla, former Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Alena Gajduskova, Vice President Senate of Parlament of Czech Republic, and Jiri Hradechy, Mayor of Janske Lazne.
Next year 14. Master World Mountain Running Championships will be held on September 6th, 2014, at Telfes, Austria.
