Wyatt and Pichrtova start favourites.

WMRA 2006 MOUNTAIN RUNNING GRAND PRIX

The following preview appears on the IAAF web page.

The first of six Grand Prix mountain races takes place in Austria (Heiligenblut – Grossglockner) on Sunday July 23rd. The following weekend (30th) athletes move to Slovenia (Kamnik – Grintovec) and on the 6th August back to Austria (Telfes – Schlickeralm).
There is then a pause as mountain runners compete in trail races to represent their countries in the World Trophy on September 10th.
The Grand Prix continues in Switzerland (Saillon – 2 Bains), returns to Slovenia (Ljubljana – Smarna Gora) on 7th October and finally to Gibraltar for a race to the top of the famous Rock of Gibraltar. An athletes best four results count towards the final overall result and Grand Prix winner.
The race on Sunday (23rd July) has attracted last years Grand Prix winners, Jonathan Wyatt (NZL) and Izabel Zatorska (POL).
Wyatt, unbeaten in mountain races for some years, starts firm favourite, but Zatorska will have difficulty holding off the new European mountain running champion Anna Pichrtova (CZE).
The uphill race covers 13.6km and climbs 1200m
